Top Tips | Moving House

Everybody knows moving house is difficult. There are so many tasks that you have to do on the to-do list, they can all run into one another. You want to make sure that your home move is efficient and the only way to do that is to plan, plan, and plan some more. Whether you are looking to do the house move by yourself, or you are looking to get some help with it, the best thing that you can do is try to make it as smooth as possible.

From moving your items into self storage so that you can downsize, to calling and getting help from a professional removalist company, moving house is going to be so much easier when you outsource for some help. Instead of trying to scrub the house top to bottom by yourself, call a cleaner. Instead of trying to get everything packed on your own while trying to juggle a family and work, call in the packers! Below, we’ve got some more ways that you can make your house move more efficient.

Borrow a van

You may not want to spend the money on removalists, but you might need a van and some people to help you to get all your things from A to B. If you call a removalist, you’re going to be able to get your things moved and you’ll have helped to do it. However, if your budget doesn’t stretch that far, borrow a van from a friend and make it a small one. You might have to do a couple of runs to get it all to the new place, but at least you’ll have something bigger than the car.

Grab some boxes

It might be tempting to get loads of plastic boxes to fill for all of your stuff, but the best thing you can do is to get some cardboard boxes from the supermarket. These will be able to be recycled and used elsewhere for other people, rather than taking hundreds of years to decompose in landfill. Finding cardboard boxes means you have something that easily breaks down in the matter of months, which means that your move isn’t going to cause too much waste.

Declutter before you go

Before you start moving anywhere, you should declutter all of your items that you are only bringing the things that you actually need. You might need to bring all the large appliances with you, or you might find it much easier to go ahead and only bring smaller items. With less furniture and less stuff, you won’t need as many van trips to get there.

Get your friends on board

You don’t have to pay for movers when you can order pizza for your friends and pay them in food! If you don’t have too much to move, ask your friends and her family to help and speed up the process and save you money. You can get them involved with helping you with packing, loading and unloading and even offer you moral support when things are starting to get stressful. They can also make excellent babysitters if you have kids.
