Home Happenings | Decorate the Dining Room

Let’s face it, dining rooms tend to be one of the very last areas of a home that get any sort of update. This is the room that will look bleak and stuffy while the rest of the home looks completely new and modern. Skipping out on modernising this space is going to create such a large imbalance compared to the rest of the home. You don’t want to do this. People skip out on modernising their dining rooms because they want it to maintain classiness. But the thing is, you can still have a very modernised-looking dining room while also still classy and elegant.

It’s no puzzle, and it’s easy to achieve! While there is so much allure to having a traditional dining room, there is also something about it that makes it harder to clean, but also a little less approachable.  So no matter what sort of style you’re into, there are ways to modernise your dining room without breaking the bank, keeping it looking elegant and approachable. So here’s how to do it.

Chic and elegance

Chic and elegant and easily go hand in hand, but it all starts with dining the right dining set. So what sort of options are there? Velvet dining chairs are one of the best ways to go. Velvet is not common for the dining room so you’re instantly adding some character to the space which is what you want to try and do. This plushness is also going to be the best way to add some softness to the hard dining room. To get unique and go chic with some elegant velvet chairs for your dining room.

Modern art

You don’t have to achieve a modern space through modern art, but it’s something that could help. Modern furnishings are bright, unique, and purposeful. The same can be said about modern art as well. Modern art and the stark angles and the bright colors can add a very interesting take to the room. It’s also a great way to maintain a more contemporary tone as well.  Even if modern art that you see in museums and galleries, is simply not your thing then why not add some art that you made or something you bought during your travels?

Modern light fixture

Another great way to freshen up and modernise your dining room is through light fixtures. While there are plenty of light fixtures that are timeless, some simply are not. So how about you give your dining room a nice upgrade by adding some new light fixtures? Lighting is not only a great way to set the atmosphere within the space but it’s also a great way to create a spotlight as well. When it comes to the dining room, it’s the dining room set that becomes the focal point. So, you’ll want to help push for this focal point through the lighting.

A pendant light is one of the best ways to do it. It draws attention to the table (which should hover above it) and it adds that gentle light that shines on the contents of the table. Modern light fixtures, including pendant lamps, are affordable, and they come in a variety of styles.

Think about the walls

When it comes to the walls surrounding your dining room, you’re going to have plenty of options. This can include the colour of your walls and the contents on the walls themselves. So why not paint your walls, add some fun graphic wallpaper, or better yet, add some decorative accents to your wall? Don’t be afraid to make a bold statement in your dining room. Bold statements are loved and praised when it comes to restaurants, so why not try it for your house as well?

Go minimalistic

Minimalistic is in, and it’s vogue. Minimalistic is a great concept, plus it helps in creating this timeless, yet airy space. Want to know another perk of having a minimalistic dining room? You’re not having to clean up as much! To create a show-stopping dazzling dining room by establishing the “less is more” rule!

Mix it up

Something old and something new can create such a lovely combination.  So why not try this for your dining room? It’s fun and unique to add elements of the modern and traditional, and the same can be said for dining rooms too. Play around with some of your more traditional pieces and see what modern pieces can fit in nicely.  It’s a great way to make your home feel fresh while at the same time, you’re not purchasing too many new things either.
