Home Happenings | Finished Nursery

We started redecorating the spare room back in August in preparation for turning it into Ollie's nursery. We weren't in a major rush as obviously he'd be sleeping in our bedroom for the first few months, but we wanted to have a space for his stuff and to do it while we had plenty of time. We got the new carpet, wallpapered and painted in September and the furniture started in October. Since then we've finished the rest of the furniture, organised all of his clothes, books and toys and started adding the personal touches.

On Ollie's door there's a personalised name sign which he got as a gift from his Auntie and Uncle. A few of the other decorative things in his room include a bunny themed picture and his name in letters on the window sill. There's quite a few rabbit things around thanks to his bunny brother Rory.

Although we've got the Chicco Next To Me in our bedroom we wanted to be prepared with his cot in his room for when he's ready. We got the Hinson cot bed from Wayfair. I liked the sleigh style and the fact that it's suitable from birth up to 4 years old as it converts. I also liked the large drawer underneath, it's perfect extra storage for bedding and clothing in bigger sizes. This cot bed doesn't come with a mattress so we bought a sprung mattress from Asda. On the bed for just now sits Ollie's giant teddy bear from his Granny and Grandad.

One of my favourite things in his room is the personalised storage bag. It's full to the brim with toys and teddies already! This is such a good quality storage bag and comes in a few different sizes. We went for the large one and it's such a sturdy bag that sits perfectly next to the cot.

With the shape of his room we were looking for the best way to fill the alcove section next to the door. One of the only chest of drawers that would fit snug from Ikea was the Hemnes chest of drawers. It's such a good size for all of his clothes and we've got the Skubb drawer organisers for keeping sizes and different clothing items organised. On top of the chest of drawers we've got a changing station with a changing mat from Matalan along with all of the essentials like nappies, wet wipes and tissues. Next to it we've got a Grey Rabbit Storage Bag which we're using as a laundry bag and obviously a bin for all those nappies!

Above the chest of drawers we've got two floating shelves, one is storage and the other is more for decorative items and things we don't need to reach for very often. These shelves are from Ikea and are only £9 each.  All of the baskets on the shelves are from TK Maxx. Inside the shelves we've got all sorts including extra wipes, medicines and teething toys. Baskets are perfect for keeping things neat and out of sight. The top shelf is quite empty right now but I'm sure it won't be long until the basket is full and the spaces disappear.

The hook on the back of the door is handy for pram suits but I'm thinking we might need to change it from just one hook to having two or three. We changed the light switch to a dimmer switch which is a must have through the night!
Through the night we feed Ollie in his bedroom and the IKEA armchair is a godsend. It's really comfortable and rocks slightly. We've got a white wood radiator cover which isn't just good because of the safety aspect it's also a handy surface for setting bottles and your phone. We've also used it for a few decorative things like his keepsake box and a clock.

Above the radiator there is two book shelves. They're already jam packed thanks to lots of books from my work stash ( primary teacher problems) and gifts. I think we might have to either operate a rotating system to vary which ones we store there and read or get some more book storage!
