May Day Holiday Ideas

It can be hard to still enjoy your leisure time if you’re on a budget. Those of us who are saving for a house can relate to this! No matter what anyone says, you deserve to play as hard as you work, and money shouldn’t be an issue.
I’m quite lucky to live in the UK, where there are dozens of great experiences to have, that don’t cost very much. In reality, the most expensive bit is the travelling to the place itself! Once that cost is covered, you’re relatively in the clear, and can enjoy your day without so much as a worry.
So, for those on a tight budget, or for those who like to save, I have you covered! Here’s how you can have a killer day out without sacrificing your wallet or purse.

Harry Potter Studios, Leavesden, Southern England

You may think this one is expensive, but in reality, it’s quite reasonably priced!

An adult ticket will set you back just £35, and with free parking on-site, costs will be minimal. The only expensive bit is the food that they supply, and all the souvenirs they have for sale. But to keep costs down, just take your own snacks and resist buying a replica of Dumbledore’s wand. You get a full, two-hour plus tour that is guided by you - no more tired tour guides! You can wander around the Hogwarts Express, the Yule Ball and Privet Drive at your own leisure. There are absolutely no time constraints, so you can make the most of every penny of that £35.

Stonehenge, Wiltshire, Southern England

You’ve seen it in the movies and TV shows, and now it’s time to live it! Most Stonehenge tours are relatively cheap, and are flexible in terms of time of day and longevity. It’s a gorgeous monument that feels as old as time itself, but at just 5,000 years old, it’s relatively young. However Stonehenge stays so youthful, whether it’s anti-wrinkle cream or a good night’s sleep, this is one trip out that’s not to be missed.

Xscape, Castleford, Yorkshire

Whether you want to go bowling, watch a movie, wall-climb or snowboard, there’s plenty to love here. It’s an all-in-one entertainment hub, and as such, you only pay for what you want. This way, you have access to a wide range of activities without being shackled to a price.

You can go and eat in a restaurant, go for a jaunt on a ski slope and then watch Batman v Superman afterwards. Or, you can enjoy a game of bowling, and go straight home. There’s plenty of free parking too, so you don’t have to scramble for a space.
To keep costs even lower, there’s even free family entertainment every school holiday. It may be hard to access this if you’re a twenty-something couple, but if you go with your parents and younger siblings it’s a done deal.

So, whether you’re saving for a wedding, house or car, make sure you still find time to enjoy yourself! You’ve probably earned it by now.
