Now it is January, I’ve noticed a lot of people on my social media sharing the foods they’re eating and their gym selfies. You can tell it is that time of year for new year's resolutions! Have you made any? I am always looking to be healthier and shift a pew pounds. If you have a little weight to lose or you could have a lot, follow these tips to help you stick to it and make the weight loss happen.
I know that this can be easier said than done. It can take a lot of conscious effort to start with. You know you have a achieved a change in lifestyle when you don’t have to think about being healthy if that makes sense? Think about small changes that you can make in your daily life. Can you get off the bus one stop earlier to walk home? Can you add an extra 15 minutes to your workout routine? Walking more and being more active is key to start with.
And by drink, I mean water! You should aim to have at least 2 litres of water a day. A helpful way to remember to do this is always to have a bottle with you. If it is on your desk, or in your bag, you will be much more likely to remember to do it. Then you’ll get in the habit and you won’t need to think about it. Drinking green tea is also a good option. You should do this alongside drinking your water, though. Green tea is great for your metabolism and much better for you then reaching for a latte or fizzy drink.
You Are What You Eat
If you eat fatty foods, you are more likely to be overweight. All things need to be in moderation but you should aim to ‘eat a rainbow’ each day. Look at your plate or bowl before you eat it and think about how many colours you can see. You want there to be a lot of bright colours, not too much beige or brown.
If you are looking for a detox or a health kick, try eating a plant-based diet for a month and see if you notice the difference. It should give you a lot more energy and no energy bursts and slumps as you can get from processed foods. If you are looking to supplement your healthy eating and boost your weight loss, you could try some natural supplements. One like Garcinia Cambogia is good as it comes from a tropical fruit that is like a pumpkin.
In your exercise routine, be sure to add some weight lifting or resistance work. I’m not talking about trying to be a bodybuilder, though. Just supplement your workouts with some weights, rather than just cardio. The more muscle you have, the quicker your metabolism will be and the quicker that your body burns fat.
Good luck with your goals and resolutions this year!
