Home Happenings: H&M Home

My email inbox is packed full of fashion websites updating me about their latest products but more and more recently I've been noticing the homeware websites sneaking in too. H&M isn't a website I look on very often but after a sneak peak of their new home arrivals I was soon browsing all the categories and making myself a wishlist.

This gorgeous, bright Fleece Blanket was the first thing from the new arrivals section that caught my eye. Floral print and teal colours it's a lovely alternative to my checked throw for the summer There's tons of different Cushion Covers  and this one jumped out at me. The metallic letters and upbeat quote make it quite fun for throwing on the couch or on the bed in a spare room. At that price it's easy and affordable to change them round from season to season. After my Mum's birthday I realised just how important vases are and getting different styles, that are high quality, without having to pay loads of money isn't actually that easy so I was quite impressed by this pink Glass Vase. I think it's cheaper than what you can find at Home Bargains! Onto the kitchen and H and M has a real mixture of fun, girly and classic items. The Tea Towel put a smile on my face whereas the Chopping Board looks a lot more expensive than it is. I suppose if I didn't use it as a chopping board I could always use it for blog post backgrounds! Lastly the Notice Board which I found in the kids section but I'd definitely use in the kitchen or near all my work stuff.

Have you shopped in the H&M home section?
Does anyone know if they've improved their delivery service?

Shaping up This Summer

It’s nice to look your best during summer, so I’ve changed the way I do a few things to shape up a little. I like myself the way I am, don’t get me wrong, but there’s nothing wrong with taking up a few new healthy habits. Here’s what I’m doing*:

Drinking More Water
I like to make sure I drink 2-3 litres of water a day. This helps me to stay hydrated, flush out toxins, and keep me feeling energised. I find that if I don’t drink enough water throughout the day, I struggle to focus and my head feels fuzzy. Water can encourage the body to flush out fat too, so I might even lose a pound or two while I’m at it. Bonus! To make it easier, I’ll write times on the bottle, and make sure I’ve drank that amount of water by the time indicated. Then, by the end of the day, I will have drank as much as I need! I’ll look at it as a bit of a game to make it easier.

Eating 2 Portions of Fruit Per Day
I love fruit, and it helps to curb my cravings for something sweeter, like chocolate. I only eat 2 portions per day because eating more than that will mean I’m consuming too much sugar! Too much sugar is bad for us, obviously, so I make sure I control my intake. Although fruit is natural sugar, you should still try to keep it low.

Eating Lots of Vegetables
Vegetables should be in every healthy person’s diet, and I love eating them during summer! I can add them to smoothies, soups, and even just make a salad out of them. I never limit my vegetables; they’re great to snack on if you’re feeling peckish. Nobody ever got fat from eating too many vegetables!

Drinking More Tea
Tea can help to perk us up and make us healthier, thanks to the wealth of antioxidants it contains. I try not to add milk or sugar to mine when I’m being healthy either. Weight loss tea could be an option for those who want to give their weight loss a boost, and green tea can help metabolism. You might think it’s weird to drink hot tea during summer, so try making ice tea instead! It’s really easy and much healthier than buying it in the bottle.

Getting a Little Exercise
I’m actively trying to get more exercise this summer. I’ll take stairs rather than lifts, and walk whenever I can to get my heart rate up. It’s always nice to go for a stroll when the weather is nice! I might even throw in a few classes at my local gym; yoga and pilates have always appealed to me, and I hear they’re much harder than they look. Maybe a spin class if I’m feeling energetic!

Hopefully, these efforts combined will leave me feeling and looking amazing. If you have any tips of your own, leave a comment below for me!

Great Gatsby Hen Party Outfit & Makeup

On Friday I went to my best teacher friend's Hen Party. This one was named her "school hen" as it was just teachers and staff from her work that was invited. In true glamorous style the theme of Great Gatsby/1920s was chosen. Everyone looked great and I absolutely loved my dress. We had the party in a local rugby club decorated with mandatory old photos. The night started off with a buffet style meal followed by a disco and Photo Booth corner. The night was filled with cocktails, Barbie Bombs, 90s music, games and dancing. Can't ask for much more than that!

Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Clearing Gel

Generally my skin is quite well-behaved when it comes to breakouts. My skin is quite dry and clear but when I have a stressful week (which is quite easy as a teacher) I tend to get a few spots and blemishes, especially on my chin. After a Clinique Skin Consultation I was recommended the Anti-Blemish Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel as spot treatment.

I've tried out my fair share of spot treatments and lots of them working in different ways... or don't work at all. As high end brand this clearing gel is one of the more expensive ones I've tried but with that it's one of the best!

It's a clear gel that can be used directly on blemishes or all over your face if acne is a particular problem for your skin. I use mine before cleansing and applying makeup in the morning and it doesn't affect makeup application at all. I also use it on spots at night before bedtime for those blemishes that seem to appear out of nowhere. It's a really quick working product. Obviously the spot doesn't disappear over night but it definitely helps. It's nice to be able to conceal blemishes easily and for them to fade within a couple of days rather than having a beacon on your face that draws everyones attention!

It's a great product for people who seem to get breakouts at the most inconvenient moments.  If you struggle with dry skin this gel isn't too dehydrating just be wary of how much you use.

Style Crush: Ashley Benson

I've been hooked to Pretty Little Liars recently, rewatching it from the start and following all the girls on Instagram. Whether it's casual or all dressed up I love Ashley Benson's style and seeing it across social media can solve many a 'I've got nothing to wear' day.

Dresslink Haul and Outfits

Back in May I did a Dresslink Wishlist after discovering the China based fashion website and longing for some summer holiday clothes. Since then my order has been made and the parcel has been delivered. Considering it came from the other side of the world it was pretty speedy and even better, it all actually fits! I thought I'd share my purchases with you lovely lot today just incase you fancy a bargain from the website.

Sandals: Accessorize
Pumps: Primark
Firstly I was so impressed by the quality of this dress. The material is really thick, almost like a denim material so there's absolutely no worries of a see-through dress. It's a really nice fit- very true to size, and the cut out details on the shoulder is a nice added touch. The dress is quite short, and as a shortie I would have to say I don't think I'll be wearing this without tights unless I'm on holiday. It does look fab with tights though, so I'm looking forward to wearing this throughout the summer.

 Off the Shoulder Top
Jeans: River Island
Shoes: Primark
Off the shoulder tops are so popular right now and can be really flattering so I was excited to get this lace one from Dresslink. Again the sizing is really good and I was able to stick to my normal size without looking like I was growing in fabric (or having to breathe in!) It's a gorgeous top and looks lovely for summer. It's a bit awkward to do things in it though... I had to abandon my standard hand on hip pose! I'm not sure I'd wear this top out for dinner as your arms feel a bit restricted but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

 Beach Cover Up
Dress: H and M
Sandals: Primark
Last up is the gorgeous kimono style beach cover up. Though not quite brave enough to show it off with just a bikini on it's a perfect length for throwing on next to the pool on top of a bikini. The colours are bright and summery and the tassels are a nice added extra. You can't really go wrong when it costs less than a Primark kimono!

What do you think of my purchases? Tempted by Dresslink.com?

The Best Places for a Foodie Break

If you love going out to eat like I do, you're probably always on the lookout for new restaurants to try. With summer coming up, you might even be looking forward to getting away for a short break where you can try some new food. There are lots of excellent foodie destinations for anyone who loves to eat. It doesn't matter whether you're watching your figure or happy to eat whatever's put in front of you. If you want somewhere to visit this summer to cruise from one restaurant to another, try these awesome destinations.

Fine Dining
With all the cooking shows on TV, lots of people are more interested in fine dining than they might have been before. You might not know a lot about how a restaurant goes about getting a Michelin star. But you know that having one is good, and having two or three is even better. If you want Michelin-starred dining, you can start in London, where you'll find plenty of restaurants to enjoy. But outside of the capital, there are other choices too. To hit up two restaurants with three Michelin stars each in one town, head to Bray in Berkshire. There's the Waterside Inn, owned by the Roux family, or Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck.

Fish and Seafood
The British Isles is one of the best places to sample some delicious, fresh seafood. We're a series of islands, after all. Unfortunately, we send a lot of our best stuff overseas, to countries like France and Spain. But if you want to try what we keep, head to one of many seaside towns for the freshest fish around. You could go up north and head to Scotland for award winning seafood restaurants. Or go south and select the best place to eat in Blackpool or to foodie hotspot Padstow, where you'll find one of Rick Stein's restaurants. In some seaside restaurants, you can watch the catch of the day come through the door as you're sitting down.

Hearty Pub Food
Although the British are much more adventurous in our food tastes now, we still love traditional fair. If you want hearty pub food, from steak and ale pie to bangers and mash, try Stamford in Lincolnshire. Hailed for its coaching inns with quality pub food, you can't go wrong with its Tudor and Georgian properties. They also have an excellent food market, so you can pick up your own delicious produce before you go home.

Food Markets
It's not just about the restaurants when you're a food lover. If you enjoy cooking as well as eating or even just making a sandwich, food markets are excellent to explore. You have lots of choices if you want to spend your time wandering markets, including St. Neots in Cambridgeshire. Richmond in Yorkshire also has some fantastic markets, including a daily indoor one, a Saturday market and a monthly farmers' market too.

If you love food, there are so many foodie hotspots to visit. To escape from the crowds, look for up-and-coming destinations that most tourists haven't caught onto yet.

Home Happenings: Inspiration

When I told the girls at work about my boyfriend's new job the first thing they said was "now you can buy a house together!"
We started off the year by saying 2015 would be the year we'd buy a house together and while working towards getting new jobs we've been saving like crazy (and buying lots of house things like a huge smart TV!) It's typical that now we're in the position to buy there's no houses that we want but we're strong believers that everything happens for a reason. While we're waiting I'm continuing to trawl through pinterest looking for housey inspiration...

One thing's for sure... I've got far too much stuff for my house to look as tidy and show-home like!

Fashion & Beauty Haul

With an F and F voucher burning a hole in my email inbox, Boots bringing back the No7 money off vouchers and TK Maxx having some hidden gems I've been making a few purchases. I'm getting to the point now where I've really got no more space in my wardrobe... how on earth am I going to manage to move house!?
