Spring Haul: New Look, River Island, Quiz...

My Easter break in Edinburgh very much revolved around shopping and eating, with a little bit of extras. With a few things in mind to update my wardrobe and a couple of spontaneous bargains I thought I'd share a collective haul. I've thrown in my non-fashion buys from TK Maxx simply because both are great products and fantastic value for money.

DIY Home Pedicure Tips

Us girls love a pamper when we’ve got a little free time, don’t we? I love giving myself home facials, manicures, and now that the summer is nearing, pedicures too! I thought I’d share my DIY home pedicure tips with you today so you don’t feel the need to spend a fortune at the salon. Enjoy!

Remove Old Polish and Clip Nails
Take off your old polish and clip your nails. I always do this before soaking as nails can be a bit soft afterwards, which can damage them when you clip. Try not to cut your nails too short. You can always file them with a strong file after clipping to get just the right shape/length. You don’t want sore toes because you clipped too far down!

Soak Your Feet
Grab a foot spa or even a washing up bowl and soak your feet. I like to put in a little bubble bath and maybe some salts to help relax my feet. They always feel so much better afterwards, especially after a long day on my feet - perfect for after shopping! You can stay like this for as long as you like. If you have hard skin and want to scrub it off, don’t soak for too long as you could take perfectly good skin with it. Use a pumice stone and a foot scrub.

Push Back Cuticles
If your cuticles aren’t pushed back, your polish won’t look perfect. It’s easy to let the cuticles overgrow on the toes, so concentrate on them to make sure you’ve gotten rid of as much as possible. Use a wood stick and gently push back so you don’t damage your nail beds. You could use a cuticle remover cream if they’re really tough. Sometimes I clip them, but only if they’re really being a nuisance - you must be careful not to cut yourself!

Paint Your Nails
Now your toes are all nice and prepped to paint your nails. ALWAYS apply a base coat. If you don’t, your polish won’t last as long and you’ll discolour your nails. Apply 2 thin coats of your chosen polish. Wait a few minutes in between coats so it doesn’t go gloopy and take ages to dry.Apply a top coat to help it last and make it shiny. Leave as long as you can to dry before you put your shoes and socks on. I like to keep my feet out for a few hours after just to be sure! I’m not having my hard work smudged!

Massage Feet and Apply Cream
Apply cream to your feet to moisturise them and get them feeling soft and supple. If you have nobody available to massage them for you, I love to use a foot massager device to get out all of the aches and pains. It’s so relaxing! You could do this before you paint your toes if you like, but you need to be sure that you don’t get any cream on your nails or you’ll stop the polish from drying.

What's In My Spring Travel Makeup Bag

With a couple of nights away this Spring I feel like I'm finally happy with my makeup bag contents, from makeup to skincare items. This spring I've been keeping it really simple for my eyes, down to just mascara, because I've just started using contact lenses. As for my face makeup I've been liking flawless skin with contour and blush and a pop of colour on my lips.  All of my skincare is very effective but gentle and all brands I've been really loving lately. As for makeup brushes I can't see past Real Techniques and Barry M.

Great Gift Ideas For Summer Birthdays

The summer season is nearly upon us, and if you are like me then you know LOADS of people with a birthday coming up and so it’s time to start organising their gifts. This situation can quickly become very overwhelming, not only money-wise, but also in terms of what you should buy. Although the internet has given us access to so much more choice, sometimes this can make reaching a decision very difficult. This year, I’ve decided to stick to a theme to make it easier and quicker to make decisions on gifts. The theme I have chosen is summer. It’s simple but has proven pretty effective so far.

Here are some of my girly gift ideas for summer birthdays. I hope you find them helpful!*

Cocktail-making kit
Sipping on a margarita, a pina colada, or whatever your favourite cocktail happens to be is an essential part of summer for most girls. That’s why I think a cocktail making kit would make a great birthday gift for your female friends this summer. You can find these sets online, or if you are strolling along the high street, from large department stores. They come in different styles; some include just the equipment while others also include some spirits and mixers. I’m sure your friend will find this gift comes in handy for all your girls’ nights this summer.

Summer dress
You can never have too many summer dresses! This is a great gift if you know your friend’s size and style well. I’ve seen some absolutely gorgeous little numbers in Primark and on Asos. Some styles that are on trend this summer include off-the-shoulder, crochet, bold florals and strapless maxis. The only difficulty with this gift idea is that you’ll be very tempted to buy lots of items for yourself too!

A summer experience gifts
Experience gifts are really popular. However, they do tend to be expensive, so you might want to think about this idea for someone who is very close to you or who is celebrating a significant birthday. Summer experience gift ideas include a hot air balloon ride, a glamping weekend and a Segway adventure day. Flying experiences, especially those in helicopters, are also popular, and you can read more about these online.
A great girly book
With all that sunbathing you and your friends are bound to be doing this summer, they will no doubt appreciate a good book to devour! If you are unsure which novels to pick up, there are some useful top selling lists on book websites like Waterstones and Goodreads. Take a look at this list of chick lit bestsellers to help you find something that will keep your girlfriends gripped under the sun.

When you have lots of birthdays coming up, it can be a bit stressful. However, I hope you have found some of my ideas helpful and that you manage to get the perfect gifts for your girlfriends or female relatives. If you have any ideas that you would like to share, I’d love to hear about them.

Primark Haul - April 2015

Primary certainly didn't disappoint me this month. I was impressed by their wrap style crop tops that looked exactly like River Island's version and couldn't resist adding another scarf to my massive collection. After a bit of research before my shopping trip I knew I wanted the Emoji pyjamas and would probably buy at least one top from their huge printed tshirt range. I was tempted to buy the "On Wednesdays we wear Pink" Mean Girls top but ended up changing my mind at the last minute. The black skater dress is such good quality and I reckon I'll be wearing the white blazer a lot with this gorgeous weather we've been having.

NOTD: Ash UV Gel Nails

The convenience of UV cured, gel style nails is so appealing when you've got a busy week ahead. That's exactly what I was thinking before going back to work after my 2 week holiday. A new term is always hectic with plans, staff meetings and CPD and the last thing I want to be worrying about is chipped nails. So I took some time out, with an episode of Pretty Little Liars and gave myself a gel manicure using Ash colours. I love the combination of beige/nude and glitter. It's just a shame I can't seem to find Ash Soak Off UV Colour Gels anywhere, I think I got them from Social Discount Network last year.

Wish, Want, Need: Bombay Duck

After getting the Fabulous Feet door mat from Bombay Duck last month my love for their homeware has grown. The colourful and pretty designs come in a mixture of vintage and modern items. I'd love to have a house filled their with distinctive, detailed pieces.

Are you lucky enough to have anything Bombay Duck in your house?

Photo Diary: Beach Day

I'm so lucky to live next to loads of gorgeous beaches. With one almost literally on my doorstep I kind of take it for granted. When we had our dog it was the perfect place for a nice long walk but now it's somewhere I don't really think of going.
In my holidays from work we had some glorious sunshine and took a road trip to an amazing ice cream shop before heading to one of the beaches about 10minutes away from my house. I went for raspberry sorbet while my boyfriend was a bit greedier choosing fudge, toffee and toffee sprinkles! This beach is huge and seems to go on forever. There's sand dunes, loads of golden sand and pretty impressive surf if you're feeling brave enough.
