Fitness Friday: Exercise at Home Inspiration

We all know how important it is to exercise regularly, to ensure that we stay in shape. The main problem for many of us, however, is time. It’s no secret that for a lot of people, busy schedules mean that there is very little time for exercise. (We should make time, I know, but it’s hard when you’re exhausted from a hectic day at work.)
After a long, and very draining day at the office, the last thing we want to do is to head out to the gym. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t exercise. Heading to your local sports centre isn’t the only option when it comes to staying in shape.
Exercising at home is becoming more and more common, as it’s easier and much less effort than traipsing to the gym. Want to know how you can exercise at home and get the same results as you would when using a commercial gym? Yes - then keep reading, for all my top tips for working out at home.

Give fitness DVDs a go
You might think of fitness DVDs are boring and ineffective, but that’s not the case. If you want to stay in shape without leaving the house, fitness DVDs really are your best friend. There are so many different types of exercise routines to choose from that there's sure to be one for you. From Pilates to Zumba, and everything in between, that there is a DVD for almost every workout. So whatever you enjoy doing, you can do it from the comfort of your living room. You can also find lots of fantastic tutorials for home exercising, on sites like YouTube. So if you don’t fancy sticking to one workout, you can access different routines to try.

Design a home gym
If you have a spare room in your house, maybe a converted attic or a guest bedroom that’s barely used, why not turn it into a gym? If you want to be able to work out effectively at home, creating your own exercise area is the perfect solution.
If you don’t have an entire room spare, just the corner of your bedroom or utility room, invest in one piece of equipment. Did you know that you can now get exercise equipment that folds up after use - how amazing is that? It’s simple to use, easy to put away and doesn’t take up too much space.

Exercise as you do other tasks
This might sound a little strange, but it’s a fantastic way to squeeze exercise into your daily routine. As you wait for the kettle to boil, or your jacket potato to cook in the microwave, jog on the spot. It might only be for a few minutes, but if you do this every time that you wait for the kettle, microwave or toaster, you’ll soon see results. Run up and down the stairs, instead of walking. Jog around the garden for 15 minutes, doing 10 star jumps every time that you pass the back door. During the television adverts, do squats - within a few weeks, you will be amazingly toned.

Think outside the box and get creative with exercise, and you will find it much easier to stay in shape. A gym membership isn’t necessary for keeping fit. As you can easily exercise at home and achieve the same results - trust me on this one. I've never set foot inside my local gym!
