4 Things You Need To Know Before Cosmetic Surgery

The prospect of cosmetic surgery can seem like a good idea for some women. If you are thinking about it, then you must know what you’re getting into. Here are four things to consider before surgery*:

Before you go anywhere to a cosmetic surgeon, you must consider your reasons for wanting a procedure. There can be many reasons you might think surgery is the option. But always make your decision based on yourself. Don’t let others influence you. If you want something done, then fine, but do it for yourself and no one else. A common reason is that of self-confidence. Some women struggle with their appearance, and it gets them down. Before jumping straight into surgery, consider ways to improve your self-confidence.

Know what procedure you want to have done before you do for a consultation. If you don’t know what you want then some surgeons could try and influence you into getting multiple procedures. Pick whatever is right for you and stick with it. You may choose a rare cosmetic procedure as opposed to the most popular forms of cosmetic surgery. If this is the case, then don’t feel pressurized to get a popular procedure done as well, just because it’s popular.

It’s vitally important that you find a cosmetic surgeon you can trust. Procedures like breast reconstruction can easily go wrong. If you want breast implants, then look for a breast surgeon with previous success. Make sure you’ve seen examples of their work and that they satisfy what you’re after. Breast surgery is because it’s the most common procedure where things can go wrong. The implants may not fit properly, you could end with uneven looking breasts or have scars on display. With other procedures, like liposuction, you still need to find a surgeon you can rely on.

Consider the costs before you commit to a cosmetic procedure. If you have money issues, then it’s not wise to look for a cosmetic procedure. Some things need to take financial priority, like bills, food, etc. On average, cosmetic surgery can cost anywhere between $120-$6,800. It depends on the procedure. The most popular procedures are the most expensive ones. Also, it can vary from place to place. Normally, the best cosmetic surgeons will charge you a higher price. But, their work will be of a higher standard. It’s not advised to go looking for the cheapest cosmetic surgeon out there. If you want something done, be prepared to pay well.

Cosmetic surgery isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Don’t feel bad, or vain, for wanting a procedure. We deal with our issues in our own way. For some of us, this means looking for surgery. Remember that all surgery carries a risk. Even simple, non-cosmetic, procedures carry an element of risk. Getting your tonsils taken out is common, but there’s still a slight risk involved. You’re essentially trusting someone to work on your body. As with every big life decision, you need to be educated before you take the plunge. You wouldn’t buy a house without considering every detail, would you? Getting cosmetic surgery is the same, you have to take a lot of things into consideration. After you’ve done that, you’re ready to make your decision on whether it’s right for you or not. That’s why I wrote this guide, to help people make an informed decision. Remember, I’m not telling you to get surgery or not, that choice is yours.

  1. I love this post but not for reasons you could ever imagine, I just had my upper eyelids done and wrote and vlogged about it. I think the first place to start is on RealSelf. Reading honest reviews and seeing true before and after photos of your doctor's work is the second most important factor... making sure he's board certified is the first:) Lily
